I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Harlee's passing. We worked together for many years at Johnston Correctional. Mr. Harlee always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude. He was a joy to be around. I am honored to have known him and to call him my friend. Rest in peace. You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I send sympathy and love to this wonderful Harlee Family. It has been a blessing to know you all and Deacon Harlee will always be in our hearts. My baby daughter Ashanti always said Deacon and Mrs. Harlee are my other grandparents. She holds the cold evening the Maple Temple Youth went Christmas Caroling and the cookies that were served to the youth left them with fond memories.

Former Town of Clayton Police Sergeant Alexander Robert Harlee, Jr. was a trailblazer in the 1960s Clayton Police Department, serving as the Town's first black police officer. In June of 1969, he became the first officer to patrol Clayton's streets using radar as part of the Governor's Highway Safety Program. He later became the department's first black officer to attain the rank of sergeant. The Clayton Police Department is proud to honor his memory.
